Unlocking the Future: Elevating Comfort, Security, and Savings with Smart Houses and Automated Living
Smart houses use technology to give its occupants more comfort, security, savings, and convenience. Household routines are simplified in automated surroundings. With the increasing accessibility of smart gadgets, what appeared to be a far-off future is now achievable. With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, they allow for a new degree of communication between the occupants of the house and the environment.
Smart houses are designed to function without human involvement, in contrast to connected homes that need user intervention to complete activities. The key to making this a reality is automation, which means that all of your home’s devices—from the television to the garage lights—have their settings and operations centralized by a system, which may be an app on your phone. Thus, choosing a virtual assistant is the first step; Alexa (Amazon) and Home (Google) are the most popular and broadly compatible options. Getting the exact devices you desire and making sure they are able to connect with the system you initially chose are the next steps.
Let’s quickly go over the advantages of an automated house before making the switch to a smart one. By remotely controlling devices, you may take advantage of enhanced security and convenience. Some examples of such functions include setting outside lights to turn on and off at certain times, regulating alarms, and shutting off an iron that has been left on. Whether you configure your air conditioning to turn on minutes before you arrive, make sure the atmosphere is colder, or schedule your coffee maker to start brewing as soon as your alarm goes off, you may improve comfort. By scheduling lights and appliances to run just during appropriate hours, the home may also save money by preventing wasteful spending. Check out the following gadgets, among others, to get your house started on this useful journey:
Virtual Assistant:
Virtual assistants are a must for setting up the automation system in a smart home. They may be downloaded as an app on your phone. As an alternative, you might get a Google Nest Mini for Home or an Echo Dot for Alexa.
Nobreak:
Electricity is necessary in a smart home to maintain an internet connection and power technological equipment. In this sense, an Uninterruptible Power Supply, or UPS, is crucial as it protects electronics from power fluctuations and outages, averting possible harm, and guaranteeing the appliances’ continuous performance.
Smart Socket :
Installing these outlets is simple and doesn’t require any renovations, making them one of the ideal devices to start developing a smart house. These outlets provide a direct electrical connection, and you can use your phone to manage any connected device thanks to their Wi-Fi connectivity. They allow you to control and schedule when the power goes on and off, which makes it easier to charge gadgets just during particular hours of the day and helps save electricity, for example.
Smart Light Bulb :
Having to use an on/off switch may feel rather ordinary after using a smart lamp. This gadget has dimming (brightness control) capabilities that may be adjusted to create a cozier environment as the night goes on. It also has the ability to schedule these tasks or run them by voice commands. You may select warmer (yellow tones) or colder (white tones) depending on the type of model and the activities taking place in the space. You can even set it to flicker in time with the music playing.
Smart Switch :
Who hasn’t had extreme reluctance to get from the couch or bed in order to just switch out the light? With smart switches, you can accomplish it with just your voice or phone, no matter where you are. You may purchase an adapter that links to the electrical system and the current switch, or you can purchase a smart wall switch. The primary benefit is that it keeps the smart bulb connected to the electrical grid, so it won’t interfere with any scheduled activities. Remember that professional installation is only advised for this one product.
Smart Locks
“Did I lock the door or not?” Use electronic locks to eliminate this concern. The door locks automatically when you leave the house and can only be unlocked using voice recognition, biometrics, or passwords. You may also select a model with a motion sensor, depending on what kind it is. Unexpected movement of the door sets off a security alert.
smart Air Conditioning
The capacity to alter settings in accordance with user preferences sets smart air conditioners apart from conventional ones. This covers operational modes, temperature control, and scheduling of activation and deactivation. After this gadget is programmed, you won’t have to worry about it not working every day. It may be programmed to switch off in the middle of the night when it is not needed and to turn on just before you enter the bedroom to cool it down. This will save electricity and save you from waking up in the cold.
Robot Vacuum
Some individuals find that mopping and sweeping require a lot of work. Not for a mechanized sweeper! During the pandemic, this gadget was popular because it kept the house tidy. Depending on the model, it may have automatic charging, be operated from a distance, have a timetable for cleaning every part of the house, and even work with virtual assistants.
Smart Refrigerator
A genuine kitchen helper, the smart fridge varies in function based on the model and has a somewhat larger investment need. These include finding recipes, playing music, monitoring whether items are running low, and remotely regulating the temperature.
Smart Television
The Smart TV is one of the first smart home appliances and has several features. Its models may differ in terms of size and image quality, but they may also include features like online gaming platforms, virtual assistants that help arrange the complete smart home, and other useful functions for everyday tasks.
Security Cameras
A security camera’s primary purpose is to monitor the house and improve security by alerting the owner and setting off on-site alarms. Additionally, a lot of individuals use this device to watch their dogs when they are by themselves at home. Ultimately, these gadgets provide real-time photos that may be observed from a distance using the applications provided by the vendors.

Huawei Watch GT 4 (46mm) Review: A Attractive Combination of Form and Functionality in Smart Fitness Tracking
Huawei has a strong track record of producing dependable and reasonably priced smart activity trackers. My experience with their products began with the Watch GT 2 days, and I have continued to explore their range, starting with the Watch Fit series and ending with the Watch 3 Pro, the brand’s first full-fledged smartwatch.
But as everyone knows, Huawei’s journey took an unforeseen detour that brought them full circle to their origins. When we go back to 2023, we finally get to see the Watch GT 4. Most of the hardware, menus, icons, and user interface are similar to the GT 3. It brings to mind the Samsung Galaxy Watch series, from Watch 4 to Watch 6, where every new model seems to be an improved version of the one before it.
According to Huawei, the GT 4’s new features include a “new” TruSeen 5.5+ heart rate sensor. Upon closer examination, though, the sensor setup is still the same as my GT 3 Pro. The user interface is now Harmony OS 4. Although there are some minor UI adjustments and new watch faces, the basic functionality and overall user experience are still quite comparable to the GT 3 Pro. With the GT 4, Huawei claims to have upgraded the GPS array and has achieved a 30% faster connection time. In fact, the GT 4 demonstrated a faster GPS lock than the GT 3 Pro in our real-world test.
The Watch GT 4 has a 466 x 466 pixel 1.4-inch AMOLED display. It may not be as brilliant as the newest products from Samsung and Apple, but it does the job.
During a three-week testing period that included running, working out at the gym, and tracking sleep, the GT 4 and GT 3 Pro produced almost comparable findings. The variations were minimal at best when examining heart rate zones, running statistics, or other parameters. It’s possible that the GT 4’s sensor hasn’t improved all that much, but this consistency highlights Huawei’s mastery of sensor technology, providing a feature-rich fitness watch at a price that can compete with more costly models.
Excellent battery life is still a feature of Huawei watches. Even with the always-on display turned on, the GT 4’s battery life lasts an average of two weeks, giving you about seven or eight days of use.
Unfortunately, the GT4 is essentially just a Bluetooth activity tracker; it does not allow third-party apps, LTE, or Wi-Fi like true smartwatches do. Nevertheless, it serves a wider user base and runs smoothly on both iOS and Android platforms. The GT4 is positioned as a desirable substitute because to its universality and extensive array of integrated notification functionalities.
A break from the typical circular cases of its predecessors, the new case’s tilted octagonal shape makes it stand out in terms of design. With this new look, the GT 4 is positioned as a multipurpose piece of gear that goes well with both formal events and exercises. Please take notice, though, that the larger 46mm version is the basis for my review. The 41mm variant features a spherical jewelry-inspired appearance and a more traditional feminine shape.
With the GT4, a new StayFit app offers a novel approach to calorie tracking. It goes beyond the typical calorie counter by letting users create weight-related objectives and accounting for daily exercise and activity records for a more sophisticated approach to food and activity levels.
And now for the cost. The GT 4 (46mm) is priced in the same range as its predecessor, starting at S$298. The strap choices are where there is a warning, though. The only version available in black with an elastomer strap costs S$298. The green hybrid nylon (reviewed) and leather versions cost an additional S$50 apiece. Choosing the stainless steel strap made entirely of metal drives up the cost to S$498. It’s interesting to note that the Watch GT 4 41mm models start at S$298 and have the same price premium for leather, metal, and elastomer straps.
Sure, you can simply get the black model and install aftermarket straps that fit a typical 20mm lug, but the case design has a subtle difference that is worth mentioning. The black version of the case keeps its outside all-black, but the green version incorporates a green line into the top half of the case.
Nestled in Huawei’s portfolio, the Watch GT 4 strikes a harmonious balance between cost and functionality. It might not satisfy the most demanding customers, like the die-hard sportsman searching for a Garmin or the frugal user content with a S$50 National Steps Challenge fitness band. However, I believe it takes up a majority space that is occupied by a small number of gadgets. The GT 4 is a worthy addition to any Huawei user looking to upgrade, or for anyone looking for a fashionable and dependable smart activity tracker.
The Huawei Watch GT 4 (46mm) series retails for S$298 at Huawei’s official Lazada and Shopee stores. Alternatively, you can purchase the Watch GT 4 41mm version by clicking on these links: Shopee and Lazada.

Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 is transforming smart homes.
Motion detectors for smart homes on the market today are frequently clumsy. They detect movement but are unable to discern specific places or activate devices associated with them. With continual movement sensing accurate enough to trigger gadgets when you sit or stand in a specific area, the Aqara FP2 alters that.
The Aqara FP2 sensor detects movement using mmWave radar detection. Because mmWave detects both big and tiny movements, the FP2 can identify whether someone is sitting on a chair or sofa and making little, general motions, something standard motion detectors cannot.
The FP2 may also discriminate between various sectors in the room in which it is positioned. For example, if you set a sofa, chair, and desk in different sections of a room, the FP2 will be able to detect if anybody is seated in any of those spots.
What is the significance of this? It sets the groundwork for a significant increase in home automation. Essentially, an Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 may be used to detect movement in specified places and trigger certain gadgets at your discretion.
For example, whenever you enter a room, the FP2 may be configured to turn on all of the lights. That is what a general motion sensor is capable of, and the FP2 is as well. Taking things a step further, you could set the presence sensor to only activate particular ambiance lights when someone enters the room. When they sit on the couch, the TV LED strip, various lights, and other mood lighting may be activated. If they stand up and go to a desk, it might be set to turn on a desk lamp, LEDs, and other lights.
Another significant advantage is fall detection. The FP2 detects a forceful fall since it can detect such exact motions and discriminate between humans and tiny animals or plants. This information can be used to raise an alert or send a notification to friends and family asking for assistance.
The sensor may also be utilized in conjunction with its AI Person Detection function to track how many people enter a room using Zone Detection Mode, which allows the FP2 to differentiate between persons.
Because the sensor is so sensitive, it can identify when members of the home are sleeping and alter illumination accordingly. It will also detect data points such as sleep duration, sleep phases, and heart rate, similar to a wristwatch or fitness tracker.
The only disadvantage would be the size of the room. When mounted to a wall, the FP2 has a detection range of around 8 meters out and 6 meters across. The detecting diameter expands to 5.6 meters when installed on the ceiling.
Fortunately, Aqara is now having a promotion in which the Presence Sensor FP2 is available for only $62 – a 25% discount off the original price. If you have a smaller house, this means only one sensor per room, and if you already have a smart home, Google house and HomeKit compatibility means it can operate with your existing gadgets.
Aqara is also selling Door and Window Sensors, as well as Temperature and Humidity Sensors. Both can activate certain gadgets in the home and offer reliable data so you know exactly what’s going on. During Aqara’s big holiday sale, the Door and Window Sensor costs $13.49, while the Temperature and Humidity Sensor costs $15.43.
The Presence Sensor FP2 from Aqara is a big step forward in smart home motion detection, and it implies an even more efficient method to connect the house without breaking the bank.
